Watford Community Lottery celebrates first ever £25,000 jackpot winner

The Watford Community Lottery is celebrating a major milestone with its first-ever £25,000 jackpot winner, alongside a flurry of other prizes in the latest draw—including one £250 winner and five £25 winners. It’s been a big week for the Watford Community Lottery, highlighting both the excitement of playing and the growing support for local good causes.

The lucky ticket holder, who has chosen to remain anonymous, matched all five numbers in the latest draw to take home the top prize. A long-standing supporter of local causes, the winner shared their delight and personal connection to the lottery:

“I am absolutely amazed that I’ve won the top prize and truly thankful. I play the Watford Community Lottery because it supports so many fantastic local causes.

“The cause I’ve chosen to support is West Herts Hockey Club, which is close to my heart. As a long-time playing member, I know how much grassroots sport benefits from initiatives like this. The club has been a major part of my life, both physically and socially, and I’ve made some amazing friends through it. I will absolutely continue supporting the club through the lottery!”

The jackpot win follows shortly after the second birthday of the Watford Community Lottery, marked by a vibrant community networking event held on Wednesday 25 June 2025 at The Hive, Croxley Park. The celebration brought together charities, community groups, and local residents to reflect on the lottery’s positive impact - over £60,000 raised and more than 100,000 tickets sold since its launch in 2023.

The Watford Community Lottery, established by Watford Borough Council, provides a sustainable and community-focused way to raise funds for local voluntary and charitable organisations. For every £1 ticket sold, 60p goes directly to the local cause selected by the player—far exceeding the 25% return to good causes from traditional national lotteries.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “I am delighted that we now have our first jackpot winner, taking home a grand total prize of £25,000. Congratulations!

“When I stood for re-election in 2022, I pledged to establish a community lottery to support local good causes. It's fantastic to see how successful the lottery has become and the difference it is making in our town having raised over £60,000 for local good causes.

“We are incredibly proud to have 64 local good causes signed up. This success is only possible thanks to the amazing support of our residents who take part in the weekly draws.”

Eligible local organisations can register as a Good Cause and receive their own fundraising page and start benefiting immediately. There’s no cost to join, and all the admin and support is taken care of.
